Theatre is for protest

Ratan Thiyan, doyen of Indian theatre, spoke at length about importance of regional & folk theatre, the tradition of protest in various art forms, trend of fusion and effects of globalization, lack of cultural policy and life of theatre artists, fading relevance of institutions like National School of Drama and much more.
Last month, he was in Allahabad to attend a book release function and was kind enough to spare more than an hours to speak to me, courtesy my friend Praveen Shekhar whose mentor he is.
Here is a video clip from a detailed interview, which reflects his views about theatre, which he considers an important tool of protest against injustice and insensitive system.
